San Fernando Valley
Property
There are so many places to spend a lazy weekend in the
San Fernando Valley. Mountains and hills surround the
area, so a weekend of hiking or camping is just a stone's
throw away. The San Gabriel Mountains are host to the
Angeles National Forrest, where adventurers can hike,
camp, and swim as long as they are respectful of the
plentiful wildlife in the area. The ocean isn't very far
either. Beaches in Malibu, Santa Monica and Venice are as
close as a 30 minute to one-hour drive away.
Shopping malls abound in the San Fernando Valley. Downtown
Burbank plays host to many blocks of shopping but still
maintains a Main Street U.S.A. feel. The Glendale Galleria
shopping mall has brought new life to Glendale and lots of
shopping options to the residents of the Valley. The
Sherman Oaks Galleria is a fun indoor-outdoor shopping
complex that features several restaurants and a movie
theater.
The San Fernando Valley is separated from the Los Angeles
Basin by the Santa Monica Mountains. There are several
routes that take commuters from the Valley to get to
downtown Los Angeles or Hollywood. Commuters can take
Interstate 405 on the west side of the mountains, they can
take U.S. Highway 101 around the mountains to the east or
they can take the less efficient but more scenic routes
through the mountain. Traveling through the mountains can
be tedious and slow but often provide breathtaking views
of the city and amazing views of some glamorous homes in
Hollywood.
For a long time there was a stigma around living in the
valley but as living in the southern part of Los Angeles
got to be prohibitively expensive, more and more people
were willing to accept the Valley as a place to flee the
congestion of the lower city. The Valley, as a result, has
become densely populated and is almost developed to its
limits.
